Someone Is Selling A Lamborghini V10 Engine On Aliexpress
We understand that even Lamborghini customers aren’t too good to look for deals. After all, when you know that you can find the same part at a VW dealer with a few zeroes knocked off the price, who wouldn’t take advantage? But this one might be too much. A little too bargain-hunter, even for the cheapest Lamborghini owner around.
In this case, it’s a 5.2-liter Lamborghini Gallardo V10, and at $58,658, it claims to be 24% off. Buy two, and the deal gets even better. The trick, though, is that this almost fully dressed engine is for sale on AliExpress. And that probably just made you stumble more than a V10 with half its coil packs unplugged.
A Lambo V10 Being Sold Where?
Does a V10 engine on the same site that is currently selling “silk” men’s underwear at $4.33 for a four-pack seem like a good idea? It does not. Do we have any reasons beyond that to doubt it? Honestly, not really.
The seller says that this listing is the engine for a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 convertible. That would make it the later V10 in the Gallardo, and it should make 552 horsepower along with 398 pound-feet of torque. But the listing claims it will fit into some other Lamborghini models too, like the Huracan, which did use a V10. But also the Aventador and Urus, which absolutely did not use a V10.
We can overlook some overzealous keyphrasing in the description. Let he who is without SEO overlords cast the first stone, after all. The engine looks like it’s the right part for the application. It also looks like these are real photos and not renderings, though it’s tough to tell thanks to the low resolution. Everything is nicely capped off, too.
Our first suspicion, though, is that the engine looks brand-new. Even Lamborghini performance engine builders and rebuilders don’t showcase engines that look this absolutely untouched.
Then there are the other items for sale from this particular seller. Want an Mx53 Upright Composite Material Metallographic Microscope? No problem, they’re $21,000 and available in 10 colors. How about a beverage can sealer or an underground pipe leak detector? Absolutely. Even a laser welder or a coin minting machine is available. Hey, isn’t that illegal? Only if you try to mint coins for the big V10 purchase, we suppose.
Here’s another bit of information that has us concerned. This online store has only been on the site since July 6. And so far, it has absolutely zero reviews. Not good signs.
Is This Store “Borrowing” From A Cheaper, More Legitimate Source?
Then we come to the strangest part of all. The listing says it’s sold by “Factory Direct Discount Store.” But buried in the ad are images and text from Guangzhou Honghui Auto Parts Company. That company has a site of its own, with years on the site and is a Verified Supplier designation.
GHAP is even listing the same engine, with the same photos, for less. It only wants $30,000, plus shipping. Add it all up, and this looks like it’s a scam, but not in the way we originally thought. It looks like not only is this seller fake, but also that it has stolen the ad from a legitimate company. One that at least seems more likely to sell you a Lamborghini V10 for about the price of a new Camry.
Even if this is a real Lamborghini engine, it might not be worth the risk. Used engines can be found in the US for about the same price. And rebuilt long blocks are available from companies like AMS Performance, built to be massively stronger than stock for more like $45k.
