Ford Celebrates 60 Years Of Mustang With Special Anniversary Package

Key Takeaways

  • 60th Anniversary package pays tribute to the original Ford Mustang with unique exterior and interior treatments.
  • Available for the Mustang GT premium Coupe and Convertible models only.
  • Only 1,965 units will be made available, with order books opening in the summer.

60 years ago, on April 17, 1964, Ford launched the first-ever Mustang at the New York World’s Fair. To celebrate six decades of the world’s most iconic pony car, the Blue Oval has introduced a 60th Anniversary package that pays tribute to the original ‘Stang.

The limited package is available on the Mustang GT Coupe and Convertible Premium models and has several style-enhancing touches that set the new S650 apart from the standard version. Customers can choose from Wimbledon White, Race Red, and Vapor Blue exterior finishes, all of which are paired with 20-inch wheels painted in Dark Gravity Gray. The five-spoke alloys sport a machined finish with Vermillion Red details and aluminum center caps inspired by the ‘65 Mustang.

Retro Flourishes With A Modern Twist

The 60th Anniversary receives a distinctive grille with a mesh design, another nod to the original Mustang. The air intake nostrils have been painted silver for contrast, adding presence to the front fascia. Ford has also added Mustang Nite Pony headlights, which look smokier than standard clusters. Vehicles painted in Race Red or Vapor Blue receive Iconic Silver side mirror caps as a subtle nod to the chrome mirrors commonplace in the sixties. Wimbledon White cars receive body-colored mirror caps.

What was that Henry Ford saying again?

Ford has fitted a modern-day interpretation of the original Mustang’s ‘cloisonné’ badging on the fenders and trunk lid. Customers can also opt for side graphics in Iconic Silver or Vermillion Red. These vinyls are inspired by the original Mustang’s rocker panel stripes. Customers can choose between Space Gray, Carmine Red, or Black Onyx color themes, while the dashboard receives a special serialized ’60th Anniversary’ badge. This isn’t the only special appearance package Ford has introduced in recent weeks, with the Bronco Raptor gaining a new Black Appearance package.

How Much Does It Cost?

If you’re interested in putting a 60th Anniversary Mustang GT in your garage, there’s no time to wait around. In honor of the original’s first model year, Ford will produce just 1,965 examples with the stylish package. Ford hasn’t announced pricing yet, but it notes it will start accepting orders in the summer, with the first models reaching dealerships in Q4 2024.

Aside from the arrival of the new 60th Anniversary package, Ford fans have more to look forward to. Later this week, the first Shelby-fettled S650 will be unveiled, which should pack an almighty punch courtesy of its supercharged V8.
