According to federal government regulations, car manufacturers are legally required to offer an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty at a minimum on all-electric vehicle batteries. And if you live in California, the requirement is even higher, guaranteeing you peace of mind for ten years or 150,000 miles. As EV batteries can be very expensive to replace, this will no doubt come as a source of reassurance for prospective buyers who are looking into purchasing an EV but are unsure about the reliability. If you are on the market for a compact SUV, whether electric or gas-powered, and want to shop for the best warranty you can get, here are ten models that come with a good warranty in 2024.
1 Volvo XC40 Recharge
Basic warranty: 4 years/50,000 miles
Battery warranty: 8 years/100,000 miles
The Volvo XC40 Recharge is the all-electric version of the XC40, with two choices of motor setup available. The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version (a new addition to the lineup for 2024) produces 248 hp. The dual-motor version enables AWD and has a total power output of 402 hp, greatly boosting its 0-60 sprint (4.6 seconds against the single-motor’s 6.9 seconds). The XC40 Recharge sports one of the stylish, high-tech interiors that Volvo is best known for, with a panoramic roof on upper trim levels and a touchscreen controlling most of the car’s functions. The available amount of space may be limited due to the car’s compact size, but Volvo cleverly makes the most of it with plenty of storage options dotted throughout the cabin.
2 Mini Countryman

Mini’s quirky SUV option offers a fun combination of practicality and performance; despite being an SUV, it is not built for any kind of off-roading aside from dirt roads, but it still serves as a practical daily driver with an edge. This is especially true if you opt for the John Cooper Works version, which is equipped with a sportier suspension and adjustable front and rear dampers. In the standard Cooper and its AWD version, the Cooper ALL4, power comes from a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 134 hp and is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. In the Cooper S and Cooper S ALL4, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (paired with an eight-speed automatic) produces 189 hp.
3 Kia EV6

Korean automakers are known for offering excellent warranties, and Kia is no exception. The EV6 is a compact crossover with a choice of several electric motor setups available. The single-motor RWD EV6 produces 167 hp in the entry-level trim; other trim levels produce 225 hp with the single-motor RWD setup and 320 hp with the dual-motor AWD layout. 4 Hyundai Kona Electric

Another strong contender in the automaker’s race to provide the best warranty is Hyundai, which refers to its offering as “America’s Best Warranty”. This applies to all Hyundai models, including the Kona Electric, which is sadly only available in 26 states, meaning a lot of people will miss out on a relatively rare affordable EV crossover below the $40,000 mark. The 2024 Kona Electric (and its gas-powered sibling) marks the start of the model’s second generation, which comes with a number of upgrades, including a redesigned, roomy interior and a new, modernized design on the outside. Power comes from a single electric motor, which produces 133 hp or 201 hp, depending on which trim level you opt for. The i-PEDAL system, which allows for one-pedal driving, is a new addition for 2024.

5 Hyundai Venue

If you’re after a Hyundai crossover but are not quite ready to make the jump into EV ownership, the Venue is another affordable option available in the brand’s crossover lineup. Three trim levels are available, and some tech and comfort features have trickled down the lineup: the entry-level SE now comes with a six-speaker audio system, while the mid-range SEL is now equipped with push-button start and keyless entry. The Limited trim sits at the top of the range, with features including LED headlights, heated front seats, and navigation features as standard. Only one choice of powertrain is available: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 121 hp, paired with a CVT gearbox.

6 Genesis GV60

A new trim level, the entry-level Standard, has been added to the lineup for 2024. It has a rear-wheel-drive setup and an extended driving range of 294 miles. The Standard is powered by a single motor producing 225 hp; the higher-level Advanced and Performance trims are both dual-motor, with a total power output of 314 and 429 hp, respectively.

7 Genesis GV70

8 Kia Niro EV

9 Kia Soul
