Buick Enclave Generations: All Model Years
Since 2008, there have been three Buick Enclave generations. In all cases, this three-row crossover has been positioned upmarket, particularly with the Buick Enclave model years from 2022 to the present day. The first-generation Enclave models featured a naturally aspirated V6 and distinct ovoid styling on a platform shared with the period Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, and Chevy Traverse.

Second-generation Buick Enclave models are notably sleeker with more room between the wheels, and a lower roofline contributing to the more elegant look. A V6 with front-wheel drive (FWD) or optional all-wheel drive (AWD) remained the powertrain of choice, while the ritzy Avenir variant was the range-topping Enclave – the most reliable six-cylinder SUV as of 2024.
For 2025, an all-new third-generation Buick Enclave debuted. Longer, wider, and taller than the outgoing version, these latest Enclaves drop the long-running V6 in favor of a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4, while adding fresh styling inside and out.

2022-2024 Buick Enclave 2nd Gen Facelift
A new front fascia, new wheel designs, refreshed LED headlights, and an overhauled rear end were all part of a 2022 mid-cycle facelift for the Buick Enclave. The Avenir trim line, our pick for best GM crossover when we drove it, that was introduced in 2018, continued to be the Buick counterpart of the GMC Acadia in high-end Denali duds.
Enclave Avenir Exclusive Features
- 20″ wheels with Pearl Nickel finish
- Unique front fascia
- Rich Garnet Metallic finish option
- Diamond-quilted leather
No powertrain changes were made for this Enclave mid-cycle refresh, though that will eventually change with Buick vowing to go all-electric, but more tech joined the roster, like an optional head-up display and a rear pedestrian alert. Other notable changes included seat foam enhancements to improve passenger comfort and a new steering wheel design.

New Evonik Acrylite LED headlights helped here, as did a 3-D mesh front grille with chrome front wings. The 3.6-liter V6 was still the only powertrain, but for 2018 it was punched up to make 310 hp, while the old 6-speed automatic was swapped out for a new 9-speed unit.
