BMW Coupe Models Ranked By 0-60 Times
For gear heads and driving enthusiasts, BMW coupe models are often held in high regard. Providing not just outwardly sporty designs, these sleek two-door coupes are usually rear-wheel drive and boast powerful engines up front. However, if darting off the line in a flash is what you’re after, it’s actually the all-wheel drive xDrive trims that prove more efficient than the more traditional rear-wheel-drive layout.
While most German performance cars are limited to 155 mph at the top-end, making it difficult to compare from model to model, acceleration times are unregulated. Therefore, we decided the best way to stack the current crop of BMW coupes against one another, was to rank them in order of their 0 to 60 mph times. These BMW coupe models are all currently available, and even the slowest portrays itself as a properly brisk driver’s car, in true BMW fashion.
CarBuzz has acquired all specs and stats from BMW, unless specified otherwise. While BMW produces a plethora of four-door and coupe SUVs, only two-door BMW coupes have been considered for this article. In the instances of multiple trims being available, such as xDrive or Competition trims, the fastest from 0 to 60 mph has been included. In the instance where two models have identical 0 to 60 mph times, the model with the highest top speed earns the higher place in our ranking. Entries have been ranked from slowest to fastest.

This 2.0-liter inline-four equipped coupe is the entry-level BMW 4 Series for 2025. While there is little to stir the senses from the configuration or displacement of the engine here, by using TwinPower turbocharger technology, BMW manages to extract a playful 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
As is the case for all models here, the xDrive coupe is capable of a quicker 0 to 60 mph time, and manages the task in just 5.4 seconds. For a base model, that’s more than impressive enough.

Packing the same turbocharged ‘four’ is the BMW 230i xDrive Coupe, BMW’s smallest and cheapest coupe on offer in 2024. Despite enjoying the exact same output as the 430i, the 2 Series manages to hit 60 mph from a standstill 0.1 seconds quicker, thanks to a lighter curb weight. Sporting a short wheelbase and top speed of 155 mph, the 230i represents an excellent entry point into sports coupe ownership. For those looking to have fun, the rear-wheel-drive coupe should be more playful, although the xDrive model is quicker off of the line, and perhaps more sure-footed through the corners too.

Whereas the 2 and 4 Series BMW coupes fit the sports car brief quite nicely, the considerably larger 8 Series is certainly more of a GT car than an outright sports car. Inside, a lavish array of luxurious amenities help to justify the steeper asking price, and under the hood, an extra two cylinders provide a healthy dose more grunt.
To be specific, 335 horses are produced by the turbocharged inline-six, which is enough to power the 840i xDrive from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds – a full second quicker than what’s possible in the 430i xDrive, for reference.

If the sound of a boosted six-cylinder sounds good to you, but the size and cost of an 8 Series is all too much, then perhaps an M440i xDrive Coupe is just what you’re looking for. Power is ramped up to 386 horsepower for the 2025 M440i, which equates to an extra 0.2 seconds shaved off from the 0 to 60 mph time.
The 2025 model boasts slight improvements over the 2024 model, including subtle design tweaks, and the addition of four extra horsepower, plus a torque increase of 29 lb-ft. Although only a marginal increase in power, the extra horses actually come 300 rpm lower also, meaning the latest M440i reaches peak power sooner than ever before.

Arguably, the M240i xDrive Coupe is a bit of a sleeper. Sure, it looks sporty, but not necessarily 382 horsepower worth of sporty, especially not in such a diminutive package. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system does a solid job of laying those horses on the tarmac, with a dazzling 4.1-second 0 to 60 mph time as proof.
The M240i also lacks the outrageously aggressive visuals of the M2, meaning it really can be considered a sleeper. All the more impressive is that this cheaper counterpart can actually match its M-counterpart in that all-important 60 mph sprint.

Although the BMW M2 with the manual gearbox matches the M240i xDrive to 60, the version with the eight-speed automatic has a 3.9-second 0-60 time. It also has a higher top speed than the M240i when the M Driver’s Package is selected. Keen to appeal to the three-pedal gang though, the 2025 M2 is at its purest with the proper six-speed manual transmission. For no extra charge, the automatic that unlocks even quicker acceleration can be equipped.
The new M2 features the BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine with more horsepower than ever before.
It would be hard to pinpoint the best BMW coupe on offer right now, as different models excel in different areas. For example, the M8 will be more luxurious than the M2, although that’s not really why most will invest in an M-badged BMW coupe. No, the main draw is the driving pleasure on offer, and as the only manual transmission-equipped M-car on offer here, the M2 stands a good chance of winning the attention of most driving enthusiasts.

This huge 2-door BMW coupe brings us into very serious territory now, comfortably cracking the four-second-to-60 barrier. In fact, the M850i manages to drag its significantly sized self from 0 to 60 mph a full half second quicker than the manual M2.
Helping it along is a monstrous, and twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V8 engine. In a world where the likes of McLaren and Ferrari are downsizing to six-cylinder engines, it’s pleasing to see large engines, like this big-capacity V8, existing within various ‘hot’ models from the whole range of current BMW models.

Across all generations, the BMW M4 Coupe has always impressed. It’s stylish, it’s reasonably accessible, and it’s properly fast. Taking care of grunt is another 3.0-liter inline-six, but unlike the ‘six’ seen in models such as the 2, 4 and 840i, this lump has been graced not just with one, but two turbochargers. This cranks the output up to a mighty 523 horsepower – enough to catapult the M4 from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. To achieve that time, you must fork out for the Competition xDrive Coupe, as the ‘base’ M4 will be a few tenths behind.
1 2025 BMW M8 Competition Coupe: 3.0 Seconds
Headlining this vast array of two door BMW coupes is the fierce M8 Competition Coupe. Much like the M850i, the M8 Competition uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 for motivation, although in this guise, it’s tweaked to kick out a supercar-slaying 617 horsepower.
Blistering power, track-worthy precision. The 2025 BMW M8 Competition Coupe delivers the intensity you crave.
Needless to say, when you stamp the loud pedal in this thing, it reacts in a decidedly savage way. The target 60 mph is dealt with in just three seconds flat, and it’ll keep on accelerating until the speedo reads 190 mph. Any faster and the M8 would be breaching firmly into supercar territory.
