Best Sedans Under $30k | 2025 Sedans Under $30,000k Rated
The price point between $20k and $30k is the sweet point for many of the most affordable sports sedans, as well as several sedans that start to encroach on the premium segment. Most of the most popular sedans in the USA fall into this category, too, like the Toyota Camry or Kia K5. Automakers walk a fine line between remaining affordable to the masses while still packing enough tech and value into their offerings to keep more discerning shoppers interested. Here are our rankings of the rest of the best sedans under $30k in 2025.

The Kia K5 makes its mark as the best sedan under 30k with a BuzzScore of 8.8 out of 10. The K5 is available in five unique trims, with the base model LSX FWD being the cheapest at $27,190 before its destination charge. The range extends up to the EX trim, which starts at $34,690 for more features. Powering four of the trims is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. The GT, however, gets a turbocharged 2.5L that makes 290 hp and 311 lb-ft. The Kia K5 can seat five people, and those in the back seats have 35.2 inches of legroom. It can hold up to 15.6 cubic feet of cargo in the trunk.
[The Kia K5 GT] is one of the best-driving front-wheel-drive cars I’ve ever experienced. The steering is so sharp; you can really feel what the front wheels are up to. It really does feel like it was tuned to be an enthusiast car.

Not only does the Honda Civic earn its spot on our list of sedans under 30k, but it’s also one of the best sedans of 2025 in general. You can buy the new Civic in any of four trims, two of which are hybrids. The least expensive of the bunch is the LX, which starts at $24,250. The cheapest hybrid version, though, is the Sport Hybrid, which starts at $28,950. Powering the first two trims is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque. The other two trims are powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder hybrid powertrain that makes a total of 200 hp and 232 lb-ft. All four trims of the Civic Sedan have seats for five, and rear-seat passengers get 37.4 inches of legroom. The trunk can hold up to 14.8 cu. ft. of cargo.
Despite being practical, affordable, and efficient, the Civic is also more enjoyable to drive than most rivals.

2.5L Inline-4 Hybrid

225 hp (FWD) | 232 hp (AWD)
Another one of the best sedans under 30k is unarguably the Toyota Camry. In our test drive of the latest Camry, we found the ninth generation of the Toyota sedan to be a fun drive with good fuel economy. The cheapest version of the new Camry is the front-wheel-drive LE, which starts at $28,700. No matter which trim or drivetrain you choose, all new Camrys get the same powertrain: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid. The main difference between the FWD and AWD models is the addition of another electric motor to power the AWD version. With that being said, FWD Camrys have 225 horsepower and AWDs have 232 hp. All Camrys can hold five passengers, and those in the back get 38 inches of legroom. Cargo peaks at 15.1 cu. ft. in the trunk.
The Toyota Prius is still the mpg king of Toyota’s lineup, but the Camry is larger, more practical, more comfortable, and nicer to drive. Mixed with the Camry’s good manners, it’s easy to claim the new Camry is the best yet.

Subaru Legacy
While it’s not Subaru’s most popular model, the Subaru Legacy is still alive and kicking. When most people think about Subaru, the hatchbacks, crossovers, and SUVs spring to mind—like almost every other brand, at this point—but the Legacy is holding onto its legacy as a practical sedan. The base model starts at $25,210, and you still get all-wheel drive as standard. Powering most trims is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, but the top two trims are given a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder that boosts those numbers to 260 hp and 277 lb-ft. The Legacy can hold five people, and those in the rear seats can stretch into 39.5 inches of legroom. As for cargo capacity, the trunk holds 15.1 cubic feet.

If you’re looking for new sedans under 30k, the newest on this list is the Kia K4. It just took over the Forte’s place in Kia’s lineup, and was given a fresher, more modern look to match the rest of the brand. Since it’s smaller than the K5, it has a price to match; the K4 starts at $21,990 for the base model LX trim. Most trims are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, but the top-of-the-line GT-Line Turbo gets a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 190 hp and 195 lb-ft. All trims can carry five people, and the rear seats have 38 inches of legroom. Despite being smaller, the K4 still has 14.6 cubic feet of space in the trunk, which is slightly more than its competitor, the VW Jetta.

Volkswagen Jetta
2025 Volkswagen Jetta
- Base MSRP
-
$22,495
- Base Trim Engine
-
1.5-l turbocharged Inline 4
- Base Trim Horsepower
-
158 hp
The Volkswagen Jetta is another affordable option on our list. At a base price of $22,495, the Jetta is one of the cheapest sedans you can buy. While American manufacturers are canceling most of their sedans, the German builder is keeping the Jetta alive for now. This sedan is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. VW hasn’t released an official 0-60 mph time, but independent testing estimates about 7.1 seconds. The VW Jetta can seat five passengers, and those in the rear seats get 37.4 inches of legroom. The car’s maximum cargo capacity is 14.1 cubic feet.
As a product with a purpose, the S, SE, and Sport trims achieve the goals of being good-looking, practical, feature-rich, and financially sensible. That makes the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta well worth a test drive if those are the boxes that need ticking.

Chevrolet Malibu
The last sedan Chevrolet is still making is the Malibu. Other American companies, like Ford, halted production of sedans altogether a short while ago, but the Malibu is just now getting the ax in favor of Chevrolet’s electric cars. The Chevy Malibu starts at $25,800, so it’s a bit cheaper than its competition, the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 163 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is your only choice in this sedan, and it’s one of the slowest cars in its class. The interior can hold up to five people, with the rear seats providing 38.1 inches of legroom. Cargo space maxes out at 15.7 cubic feet in the trunk.

Characteristics Of A Sedan Under $30k
Not being part of the super-budget classification nor the more exclusive luxury segment, four-door sedans under $30,000 have a wider variety of traits, ranging from the more mundane to the more appealing options. Here’s what to expect from a sedan in this price category:
- Performance: While more than 200 horsepower is a rare sight in this segment, most of the mid-$20k sedans come with competent engines that supply them with enough power to never feel slow. Many of these cars are quite light, so they make good use of the power on hand, and some automakers tune their suspensions and handling elements to deliver a surprisingly enjoyable driving experience.
- Practicality: Once you get into the realm of midsize sedans, the amount of rear passenger and cargo room on offer becomes quite generous. Though still less practical than larger SUVs, these sedans feel quite easy to live with when you have a small family that includes only one child. Once you get to two or three and they start growing into their teens, you’ll want the extra room of a high-rider with a proper cargo bay.
- Technology: Most affordable cars come standard with a smattering of modern tech like forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, a rearview camera, and a modest infotainment system. More desirable features like heated and power-adjustable seats, automatic climate control, and even hands-free trunk lids, along with more advanced driver-assistance systems, make their way into top-spec models.

What To Consider Before Buying New Sedans Under $30k
When you’re shopping for a new car and your budget isn’t quite so constrained, you have to have a clear idea of what you want. It’s no longer a matter of “beggars can’t be choosers.” If you’re going to be using your sedan for traveling to and from work and not much else, you’ll have different criteria than if you want something a little more practical or possibly even fun. These are the areas where cars at this price point excel or fall short:
Pros
- Variety of capable powertrains
- The starting point for many hybrids
- Fair number of comfort and convenience features
- Some enjoyable driver’s cars
- Spacious rear seats
- Good fuel economy
Cons
- Material quality is still middling
- Trunk space is still limited
- Many desirable features are optional extras that break the $30k mark
