Best Convertible Cars | 2025 New Cabriolet Rankings

The best convertibles in the USA provide a more immersive driving experience than their coupe counterparts. While practicality can suffer due to stowage of the roof, the best convertible cars have the desirable image that many drivers seek. Some are simple, with manual fabric roofs and minimal equipment to keep the price down. Other 2025 convertibles are just as luxurious as hardtops, with electrically-powered roof designs that can be lowered or raised at the touch of a button. While few are cargo-haulers, there is no replacing the rush of the wind through your hair and the amplified sound of the engine.

Vehicles are assigned a BuzzScore in relation to their direct segment competitors, and as such, vehicles in this list, while similarly scored, do not necessarily compete directly against one another. Lexus LC 500 Convertible

2025 Lexus LC 500 Convertible

Engine

5.0L V8

Horsepower

471 hp

MSRP

$106,450

The best convertible on our list with a BuzzScore of 8.8 out of 10 is the Lexus LC Convertible. This cabrio has exceptional style, exceptional build quality, and a powerful V8 under the hood. The convertible LC is the most expensive variant since it starts at $106,950. Fortunately, the convertible has the same powertrain and specs as the coupe: a 5.0-liter V8 that makes 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. With a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel-drive, this Lexus sports car can do 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 168 mph.

We couldn’t discern a difference in interior noise levels between the soft top and the metal roof. There is absolutely no downside when the roof is up on the LC convertible. But folding down the roof brought some disappointment.

2.0L Turbo I4 Mild Hybrid | 3.0L Turbo I6 Mild Hybrid

Horsepower

255 hp (2.0L) | 386 hp (3.0L)

BMW has a handful of convertibles that make our top ten list. The first of the bunch is the 4 Series Convertible. This BMW is available as either the 430i or M440i (we’ll get to the M4 Convertible later), and the cheaper of the two starts at $59,500 for 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with rear-wheel drive that makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft. BMW claims this variant is capable of doing 0-60 mph in six seconds. The M440i, however, starts at $73,050 for its RWD version. This car has a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder that makes 386 hp and 398 lb-ft, and it’s capable of a five-second 0-60 time. The AWD variants of each model trim some time off their respective 0–60 runs.

3

BMW M8 Convertible

The next drop-top car on our list is the BMW M8 Convertible. While this isn’t the most expensive car we have on this list, it’s not cheap with a base price of $150,000. For that much money, you’re getting a mix of BMW luxury and superb performance. Under the hood is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It goes without saying that it’s a quick car, but the exact figures claimed by BMW include a 3.1-second 0-60 time, and a top speed reaching 190 miles per hour with the M Driver’s Package. Without the optional package, the M8 Convertible is limited to 155 mph.

4

Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

One of the most fun ways to enjoy the wind in your hair is in the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. It’s normal for a convertible version of a sports car to cost more than the coupe, but the 911 Carrera Cabriolet is more than $13k over the base coupe. For a minimum of $133,400, you can get your hands on a classic. Powering this Porsche is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat six-cylinder that makes 388 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. Porsche says the Carrera Cabriolet can do 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, and reach a top speed of 181 mph.

While several convertibles are noticeably less engaging than the coupe counterparts, the Carrera Cabriolet remains a fantastic driver’s car.

BMW M4 Convertible

While we mentioned the other 4 Series convertibles earlier, the BMW M4 Convertible is the top of that lineup. BMW makes it easy to choose an M4 Convertible because there’s only one choice: the Competition xDrive. This car has a base price of $96,200 before the destination charge, but some might consider that a worthy price for the performance it provides. This version of the M4 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that makes 523 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. With AWD, you’ll be launched from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. If you pay for the optional M Driver’s Package, then you can get up to 174 mph.

6

BMW Z4 Roadster

2025 BMW Z4 Roadster

Base MSRP

$54,500

Engine

2.0L Turbo I4 | 3.0L Turbo I6

Horsepower

255 hp (2.0L) | 382 hp (3.0L)

Despite many convertible models having two doors and tiny seats in the rear, some people just want a sporty two-seater to lower the roof on. BMW has an answer to that, as well, with the Z4 Roadster. It might be missing a couple of seats and some cargo room, but the price doesn’t drop for anybody. The Z4 Roadster starts at $54,500 for the sDrive30 trim, or $67,000 for the M40i. Depending on which version you choose, you can have either a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder that makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft, or a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six for 382 hp and 369 lb-ft. The M40i version can do 0-60 mph in about 3.9 seconds. With a new manual transmission for 2025, the Z4 is better than ever.

2.0-Liter I4

Base Trim Horsepower

The only even remotely affordable car on this list is the Mazda MX-5 Miata, so it’s a good thing anybody can have fun while driving it. The Miata is available in four trims, with the Sport model being the cheapest at $29,530 and the most expensive being the 35th Anniversary Edition for a base of $36,250. Every trim is powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Nobody claims this is a fast car, but that’s kind of the point. As the saying goes, it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. With that being said, the MX-5 can do 0-60 in around six seconds.

“It’s brisk off the line, the manual transmission is joyous to work the three-pedal-dance with, and the chassis is perfectly balanced to invite any driving style to have fun with.”

BMW 8 Series Convertible

As the last BMW on this list, the 8 Series Convertible brings more of what’s expected. It has a comfortable interior with plenty of modern luxury and driver-assist features while not being too over-the-top. You can choose between the 840i and the M850i xDrive, but they’re both fairly expensive. The 840i starts at $101,400 and the M850i xDrive has a base price of $117,000. The cheaper option includes a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six that makes 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, while the more expensive has a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 that makes 523 hp and 553 lb-ft. The latter is the quicker option, of course, with a 0-60 time of around 3.9 seconds.

Bentley Batur Convertible

Batur Convertible - 1

2025 Bentley Batur Convertible

Base MSRP

$2,300,000

Engine

6.0-liter W12 Twin-Turbo

Horsepower

740 hp

We’ve brought up some pretty expensive cars today, but this one is on another level. No, it’s not a typo: the Bentley Batur Convertible costs $2,300,000. Part of the reason this car costs over two million dollars is its limited production run of only 16 models worldwide. Powering such a supreme vehicle is a renowned engine: the 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 that makes 740 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. While many people look to brands like Bentley for the height of luxury, they also get reminded of the balance between pleasure cruising and performance driving. While Bentley does not specify a top speed or a 0-60 time, we estimate it’ll be close to the coupe’s mid-three-second sprint.

Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible

New Continental GTC Speed - 6

While the previous Bentley we went over was impressively expensive and absolutely unattainable, the Continental GT Speed Convertible is less so, but you shouldn’t underestimate the driving experience of a $300,000 car. Most people will never see one of these in their lives, let alone get the chance to drive one, but here we are. Powering this Conti is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid that makes a net combined 771 hp and 735 lb-ft of torque, which means it’s actually faster than the Batur Convertible with a W12. It can launch from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 177 mph.

“We launched the Continental GT Speed to 60 in just 2.91 seconds, solidifying it as the second-quickest car we have tested this year to date. It gets off the line perfectly every time after dumping the clutch and pawing the pavement with all four wheels. You get an electric shove at the beginning, which seamlessly blends with the V8 acceleration. It feels like being catapulted off a cliff.”

Why Should You Buy A Cabriolet?

Some cabrios offer a truly exhilarating drive, such as the Mazda MX-5 Miata and the Porsche 718 Boxster. These top-rated options will suit those who value sharp handling and exceptional feedback. If you prefer more of a grand tourer, you could consider alternatives like the CLE from Mercedes. Technology has evolved to a point where most modern roadsters are just as engaging, comfortable, and refined as their coupe counterparts. Above all, an open-top offers the novelty of wind-in-your-hair motoring and the versatility to act as a coupe when required.

Main Characteristics Of The Top-Rated Convertibles

Shopping for automobiles isn’t what it used to be. Today’s saturated market and the plethora of brands demand that shoppers spend more time researching before signing on the dotted line. It’s no different when trying to draw up a list of the best droptops. We’ve summarized some of the main points to take note of:

  • Practicality: Seating and trunk space differ broadly. It’s important to evaluate cargo capacity.
  • Roof: A manually-operated roof is more affordable and will require less maintenance, but isn’t as convenient.
  • Cost: Carries a significant premium over the equivalent coupe. It’s worth evaluating if the extra cost is really worth it, whether you choose to buy, rent, or lease.
  • Dynamics: The best cabrios are superbly engineered and remain refined even if they have a fabric top.
  • Equipment: Heated seats, neck-level heating, and a rollover protection system are some features that carry more importance in this type of vehicle.

This is one of the smallest niches in the automotive world.

The Right Buyers For New Convertibles

Even the newest convertible won’t suit everyone, but for the right shopper, it can be the ideal vehicle. If you often travel alone or with one other occupant, a drop-top car could be a good fit for you. If you already have a large sedan or SUV for daily use, it could be the perfect weekend toy.

For those who live in warmer regions of the US, the ability to let the sunshine in simply adds to the fun. Higher-end options are engineered so well that the most discerning buyer wouldn’t be able to tell that they aren’t in a full-size luxury sedan.

Cabriolet Advantages And Disadvantages

As with any other segment, this body style has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. On the upside, cabrios tend to look more stylish than a coupe. Many are equipped with amenities like wind deflectors and neck warmers. However, they tend to be heavier, slower, and more expensive than coupes.

Pros

  • These vehicles are more desirable than other body styles
  • An open-top car is enjoyable in warmer regions or seasons
  • Modern features improve comfort levels
  • Often just as sporty as coupes

Cons

  • Typically heavier and slower due to extra chassis stiffening
  • Pricier than hardtop
  • Trunk space is often compromised
  • Undesirable dynamics on some models
