‘I’m a cleaning expert – here’s a 40p hack to remove oil stains from your driveway’
A cleaning expert has shared a simple trick to clean your driveway for just 29p, potentially saving households lots of money on professional cleaning.
A driveway is often the first thing visitors see when they come to your home, but keeping it clean and tidy can be a challenge, especially after the recent severe weather in the UK.
Dirt, grime, moss and other debris can quickly build up, and while it might be tempting to hire a professional to make your driveway look spotless, this could cost a whopping £400.
However, experts have shared an easy and cheap way to keep your driveway clean.
Pressure washers might seem like the easiest solution to get rid of the dirt, but they’re not affordable for everyone.
Tom Allen, who owns TGA Concrete Pumping, has shared his top tips on how to do the job on a budget, reported The Mirror.
To get rid of moss and algae, he suggested starting by “sweeping away any surface-level dirt” and then spraying or pouring a mixture of white vinegar and water onto the area.
Leave it for 20 minutes, then scrub with a soft-bristled brush and rinse with water. You can buy white vinegar for 29p from Asda or Tesco.
If you’ve got tough stains like oil or grease, Tom said to cover them with something that soaks it up, like cat litter, sawdust, or baking soda, and he says to “act quickly” to get rid of it.
You can also use dish soap and hot water and scrub hard with a brush, or try a paste made from baking soda.
To not have to scrub your driveway all the time, which isn’t much fun, Tom recommended “regular maintenance” on your driveway so it’s easier to take care of.
It might not seem important, but stopping dirt and grime from building up by sweeping often can save you time and work later.
He also suggested thinking about using a “concrete or tarmac sealer” to stop more dirt from getting on your driveway.
These hacks can also work on patios, and white vinegar will also help to get rid of any weeds.
