‘I learned this genius clothes folding hack while in prison’

A former prison inmate has shared the clothes folding hack he learned behind bars, but still uses now he’s a free man.

Trell, who is known as @trellthetrainer on TikTok where he has more than 1.7 million followers, transformed his life after ending his prison sentence, with him now working as a personal trainer while running his plant-based food company.

However, he hasn’t got rid of all his habits from his time locked up – including how he folds his clothes.

In a TikTok video simply captioned “DIY underwear folding hack”, he tells his followers: “I know most of us are told to fold our underwear this way but this will save you so much space – it’s called the prison roll.”

In the video, he is seen folding a pair of Calvin Klein boxers in half, and half again, before rolling them up and tucking the bottom part into the waistband.

He added: “I promise you, this will save you so much space in your drawer, especially when travelling.” In another video, he is seen using the same technique to roll his socks up, and he even shows how it works on washcloths too. He confirmed in this other video that he learned these skills behind bars.

Commenting on his post, one user said: “Now I’m going to pack my stuff good and go to the Dominican Republic. Thank you.”

Another user added: “I learnt same thing in the army.” A third user said: “So did my Jamaican grandmother do time? Because I was raised to fold my socks and underwear just like this.”

One more user added: “This is how I pack my suitcase when I travel, it can be done with clothing as well.” A final user said: “I always felt like folding socks like that expanded the elastic.”
