How to clean cutlery in dishwasher with 10p tip that leaves it sparkling

There’s nothing more frustrating than opening your dishwasher only to find marks and stains stubbornly clinging to your cutlery.

However, Lynsey Crombie, also known as the Queen of Clean, has shared a little-known hack with her 368,000 Instagram followers to prevent this from happening.

The trick involves an item you typically use for wrapping leftovers or cooking. Lynsey frequently shares advice on maintaining cleanliness in various aspects of life, including homes, kitchens, and cutlery.

Recently, she enlightened people about the incorrect usage of their dishwasher tablets.

Now, she has provided another tip for homeowners seeking spotless knives, forks, and spoons.

In a video, she stated: “Dishwasher tips you need to know! Ready to get the most out of your dishwasher? Try these genius hacks.”

“Shiny Cutlery Hack: Add a ball of tin foil for sparkling results. Speed Up Drying: Pop a dry tea towel in toward the end of the cycle to soak up excess water-perfect for when you need your dishes quick!”

Some of her followers were astounded by the results, with one commenting: “The tin foil hack is brilliant,” reports the Mirror.

Another chimed in: “Rolling up my tin foil as we speak!! How did I not know about this great tip? Fab.”

A third fan added: “I saw this time from you before and now do this with my glasses/ cups and it’s so much better.”

While another follower humorously remarked: “I’ve got a great dishwasher, my hubby..”

Some social media users remained sceptical about the cleaning tips, with one person asking: “More questions than answers! Why are you pointing at the cups and glasses? Do you leave a tea towel in when it’s running?”

Others shared concerns about waste, with a comment stating: “Can I reuse the same ball of tin foil? Wasting it stresses me out!”

Previously, cleaning expert Lynsey Crombie cautioned against a popular hack, saying: “Stop using dishwasher tablets to clean your washing machine! I know I know – they seem like a quick fix, but dishwasher tablets are designed for food breakdown, not laundry mess.”

Adding to her advice, she warned: “They are harsh and can damage your washer’s seals, hoses, and drum, and leave behind a pesky residue build-up!”

Instead of the risky shortcut, the household guru recommended alternatives such as soda crystals or specific washing machine cleaners, showcasing products from Dr Beckmann and Vamoosh in her video.

As another option, she pointed out the benefits of the self-cleaning feature available on some models: “Instead, reach for soda crystals, a proper washing machine cleaner, or just use the self-clean mode on your machine! Your washing machine will thank you, and so will your clothes!”
