Creases will ‘drop out of clothes’ without an iron using 2-ingredient spray

Ironing clothes can be a laborious task, especially in the run-up to a busy work week.

Shirts, linen, good-quality cotton and smart trousers are some of the most difficult items to iron as they are prone to creases and wrinkles.

If you don’t have an iron, or you simply don’t want to spend hours ironing your clothes, AO.com’s laundry expert, Gwil Snook, has shared four handy hacks to remove wrinkles and creases from clothes without using an iron.

1. Spritz with a wrinkle-releasing product

Gwil suggested adding one part water to one part fabric softener to make your own wrinkle-release spray.

He added: “Mix well and spray lightly onto clothes to help relax the fabric so wrinkles simply drop out once you hang them up.”

2. Avoid overcrowded wardrobes

Shirts, smart trousers and linen should be kept in a wardrobe that isn’t overcrowded as it doesn’t allow the clothes to breathe.

When clothes can’t breathe, they can end up creasing. After washing and drying clothes, ensure there is enough space in the wardrobe between items when you hang them up.

3. Use a damp cloth in the dryer

Gwil said: “When using a tumble dryer, try adding a damp cloth during the last 10 minutes of the cycle. This softens the fabric and helps loosen any remaining wrinkles.

“Another trick is to toss in a tennis ball, which helps clothes dry faster and reduces wrinkling by moving air around the dryer.”

4. Steam out stubborn creases

Handheld steamers are a cheap and space-saving option for removing creases. Furthermore, they remove creases a lot faster than irons.

However, if you don’t have a steamer, you can hang the items in the bathroom while taking a hot shower. The steam will help release the wrinkles.
