This Is The Countryman Crossover Mini Should Have Made
This is one mean Mini. German off-road tuner Delta4x4 has turned its go-anywhere attention to an unlikely source. The Mini Countryman isn’t a model you’d normally think of when it comes time to explore the country, but this raft of changes is designed to change that.
Giving it more suspension height, beefier tires, new wheels, and other changes don’t make it into a Wrangler-fighter, but they do turn it into something unique. A small-ish and stylish model that looks as at home on Europe’s urban streets as it does heading up into the Alps.
This Mini Is Built By Dakar-Winning Racers
Mini is working on a more rugged version of the Countryman of its own, but since we haven’t seen or heard anything about it since last July, it makes sense that a company would try to do this on its own. And the company, Delta 4×4, went to the same source Mini has used for special editions of its own – the highly-experienced team at X-raid.

It looks ready to jump some dunes.
Delta4x4 is no stranger to off-roading, with an extensive catalog including more capable VW trucks and vans, Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons, and Ford’s Euro-market pickups. X-Raid has been to Dakar plenty of times before, with six wins under its belt. It has loads of experience with Minis and a wide range of other 4x4s over the years.
Small Touches Boost Mini To Max Capability
This Mini Countryman starts with a Delta4x4 Suspension Distance Kit. This simply means aluminum spacers but adds about an inch of ground clearance to keep you from smashing into things underneath.
New Klassik wheels look the part of the rally-raid special, and they’re fitted with tires that wear a winter-tire rating and should deliver better off-road grip and durability. One cool feature of the wheels is that the outer ring is removable. Not to work as a beadlock, but in case you smash it on a rock you can replace it and not the wheel.
Delta4x4 offers this kit for both gas and diesel Countryman models. Yup, you can still get a diesel Mini in most of the world, just not here. You can also get 18-inch wheels and tires, which will let you give even the JCW versions of the Countryman (they have bigger brakes) the off-road treatment.

X-Raid graphics on the doors and hood help complete the look, making the Mini special without being loud and brash. Delta4x4 hasn’t priced the parts for the new Mini Countryman, but its SDK lift for the last-gen Countryman was around $700 after the euro conversion, and the wheels and tires will probably add around $3,000 to that figure. From ice to desert, Delta4x4 says this Mini is ready for any challenge.
