Lexus SUV Models Ranked By Cargo Space

Key Takeaways

  • The Lexus UX has the least cargo space of any Lexus SUV, making it more suited to younger shoppers or couples without children.
  • On the other hand, the three-row Lexus TX is the most practical SUV from the luxury brand.
  • Lexus offers a combination of two- and three-row SUV models to suit various buyers.

Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus, offers a diverse lineup of SUVs in its current product range – everything from compact crossovers to full-size SUVs with traditional ladder-on-frame chassis for maximum off-road capability. Similar to other products made by Lexus/Toyota, a select few are also available with hybrid powertrains for greater fuel efficiency compared to their standard gasoline counterparts, along with other rivals in their class.

Whether buyers want decent occupant space or cargo-carrying capability, various Lexus SUV models can meet these needs. To make comparing each one easier, the following list arranges all Lexus SUV models in terms of cargo space size.

In cases where the MSRPs are quoted, note these prices exclude additional fees such as the destination fee, applicable taxes, title, and dealer charges. The list has been arranged by cargo space behind the second row, to make comparing two- and three-row models as fair as possible. All other specifications are sourced directly from Lexus.

7 Lexus UX

Cargo Space Behind Second Row: 17.1 Cubic Feet

To start our Lexus SUV size comparison, the smallest model on sale is a Lexus subcompact crossover, and the cheapest entry point into Lexus SUV ownership – the Lexus UX. Newly updated for the 2025 model year, the UX is the first in Lexus’s lineup to feature the latest fifth-generation Lexus Hybrid System. This consists of a 2.0L four-cylinder petrol engine and two motor generators that deliver a power output of 196 horsepower combined. The UX model range has also been simplified to just the UX 300h in various trims, with the UX 250h model removed altogether. Competing against subcompact crossovers like the Mazda CX-30 and Kia Niro, the UX stands out with impressive efficiency and a more premium interior. However, its cargo space behind the rear seats is limited to a rather small 17.1 cubic feet.

It may be the smallest Lexus SUV by size, but the UX still delivers the luxury and prestige associated with the brand.

6 Lexus NX

The NX has been on sale since the 2015 model year, positioned between the subcompact UX and midsize RX crossover SUVs in the Lexus product range. Whether equipped with a full gasoline engine or a hybrid system, all NXs measure 183.5 inches long – providing plenty of occupant legroom that makes them competitively spacious compared to other compact SUV rivals. Cargo space behind the second row isn’t remarkable, though, at just 22.7 cubic feet; this isn’t much better than the UX’s figure. However, folding down the rear seats will expand the available space to 46.9 cubes. 2025 Lexus NX models continue to be available with multiple petrol and hybrid powertrains, ranging from naturally-aspirated or turbocharged gas four-cylinder models to a plug-in hybrid with 304 hp.

This Lexus SUV was one of the first luxury midsize SUVs that established the segment, spurring the creation of rivals like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. Measuring 192.5 inches long, the 2024 RX manages 29.6 cubic feet behind the second row. This is an average number, as some compact crossovers have bigger trunks. The RX is now reduced to being a two-row SUV, as the three-row RX-L model has been discontinued. Powertrains for the RX include a base 2.4-liter turbo-four with 275 hp, while the most powerful version is the RX 500h hybrid with 366 hp combined. The latter will hit 60 mph in only 5.9 seconds.

The Lexus RZ is the brand’s first electric SUV to bear the Lexus emblem. Utilizing the e-TNGA platform shared with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, the RZ elevates this Japanese-designed EV further, bringing the high standard of Lexus refinement and luxuries to this Japanese electric SUV. For the 2024 model year, Lexus adds a new entry-level trim to the RZ range: the RZ 300e – available with front-wheel drive and up to 266 miles of range, compared to all-wheel-drive models that top out at 220 miles.

The maximum driving range may be slightly below rival electric SUVs from other premium brands like Genesis or BMW, but the Lexus makes up for this with a generous amount of standard equipment equipped on the entry-level Premium models – including multiple driver-assistance aids, a ‘Dynamic Sky’ panoramic sunroof, and a heated steering wheel with electrically-operated steering column adjustment. A dedicated five-seater crossover, the RZ has a spacious trunk with just under 35 cubic feet of space.

3 Lexus GX

Cargo Space Behind Second Row: 45.6 Cubic Feet

Placed below the full-size Lexus LX SUV, the Lexus GX is the more off-road-focused, utilitarian SUV of the two. The midsize Lexus GX entered its third generation for the 2024 model year, sporting an all-new body design and platform that combines go-anywhere capabilities with the refinement of a Lexus product. Capable of seating up to seven occupants, the GX has up to 45.6 cubes of cargo space behind the second row, but that applies to two-row Overtrail models. Three-row models still have 40.2 cubes behind the second row when the third row is folded flat.

Similar to other large SUVs in the Lexus range, the third-generation GX features a downsized unit – the older V8 is replaced with a 3.4L twin-turbocharged V6, with a hybrid option to be added in the near future. Buyers looking for a decent competitor to upmarket, utilitarian models like the Land Rover Defender 110 should focus on the Overtrail model that brings additional off-road features like crawl control and multi-terrain assist (combined with rugged styling).

The fourth-generation Lexus LX is an all-new model, replacing the third-generation LX that was in production for more than fourteen years. This is one of the biggest Lexus SUV models by size, and now uses the same underpinnings of the latest Toyota Sequoia and Tundra, the LX continues to serve as the most upmarket model of the three. It has a length of 200.5 inches, three-row seating (on selected models), and a height of up to 74.6 inches.

The long body frees up as much as 46 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row on the base LX. The Ultra Luxury has the least space behind the second row at 41 cubes. The LX is available only with a twin-turbocharged V6 across all models, with no V8 or hybrid options. If a Japanese rival to the likes of luxury SUVs such as the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator is what you seek, Lexus’s flagship SUV is an option to consider.

What’s better between a minivan and an SUV with a third row?

If you don’t need to go off-roading or won’t be doing much towing, the minivan wins. It has a more accessible rear cabin thanks to sliding doors, along with better general space utilization and more seating configurations. Minivans are also very comfortable to drive. However, SUVs look better and there are many more options available. Would you consider a minivan over a three-row SUV?

1 Lexus TX

Cargo Space Behind Second Row: 57.4 Cubic Feet

The Lexus TX, filled with many useful family-friendly features, is the newest Lexus SUV model in the lineup and the longest SUV on our list. With a length of up to 203.5 inches, it leads the way in this Lexus SUV size comparison, at least in terms of length and interior space. The third-row seats can accommodate adults, but when they’re folded, the TX has a generous 57.4 cubic feet of cargo space; this is much better than any other Lexus SUV.

Heavily based on the Toyota Grand Highlander, the TX differs from its sibling with the latest Lexus ‘Unified Spindle’ grille design, the option of hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and individual second-row seating for additional occupant comfort. Like other Lexus models, the TX is available with a long list of amenities.
