Even though the Kia EV3 only debuted about a week ago, we already have images of the sporty GT-Line on the road thanks to the YouTube channel Infinite Run TV. The vehicle was caught out testing without any camouflage near the Hyundai-KIA R&D Center in Namyang, South Korea and it looks to be the perfect trim for those wanting a little more style in their EV.

The GT-Line debuted along with the rest of the EV3 lineup last week as the brand’s newest entry-level EV in the United States. The company didn’t think the EV5 would work here, but it does think there’s room for a cheaper model in its lineup, which is where the EV3 comes into play. It could arrive at somewhere around $30,000. The GT-Line will be much more expensive than that, but it will help the model fit in nicely under the EV6 and EV9.

Out On The Road

The model can be seen hitting the open road with some easy highway driving and doesn’t look to be breaking a sweat. This is thanks to the single electric motor on the front axle that produces 201 horsepower and 209 lb-ft of instant torque, which should make most driving a breeze. As the top model, it will also have an 81.4 kWh battery pack that will allow it to travel 313 miles on a single charge, though that number will be different when the EPA perfoms its evaluation.

Even though we don’t see much of the front, you can see the additional design elements on the rear bumper that give the model a little more character. For some reason it’s wearing different wheels, perhaps testing different tires, but the GT-Line should arrive with the black wheels seen here at all four corners. The vehicle does look good in black, but we must say we’re partial to the green hue from the the model debut.

GT-Line, Not GT

Automakers that don’t do enough to differentiate their trims are always frustrating, and Kia is no different. While the GT-Line sounds sporty, it’s mostly a cosmetic and technology package that doesn’t add any more grunt. On models like the EV6, the GT-Line is at least capable of producing 320 horsepower thanks to its AWD system, so its inclusion in the FWD-only, 201 hp EV3 is an interesting choice.

Fortunately, a truly sporty GT version is on the way, and this model should offer properly inspiring performance. The current rumors are that the company will go with an AWD setup that could produce over 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The GT-Line and the rest of the lineup will arrive in late 2025, so expect the GT to arrive a year or two after that.
