Remove mould and orange stains from grout in 30 minutes using bathroom item

Fans of the cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their go-to method for removing mould and stains from tile grout.

Exposure to hard water which contains minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron can discolour grout, causing it to turn orange and yellow.

Using too much soap and failing to wash it off your tiles can also cause grout to become discoloured.

If you’ve got black stains on your grout, this is likely caused by mould and mildew which forms when there’s lots of moisture and humidity.

One person who was struggling to remove stains from her tile grout was Facebook user Charlotte Louise.

Charlotte Louise asked the group, ‘Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips’: “Any tips please for shower grout? This is after using HG grout stuff.

“Made no difference at all. Tried Pink Stuff, degreaser, Flash, industrial grout cleaner, white vinegar, and washing-up liquid. Nothing is shifting it? Thanks.”

Included in the post was a photo of Charlotte’s bathroom grout which had turned a rusty orange colour.

The most suggested hack was to use a mould and mildew spray such as Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster.

Kelly Bett said: “Spray on the Astonish Mould and Mildew spray. Leave it for a good half an hour and then use a grout brush. That should remove it.”

Gail Dell commented: “Astonish Mould and Mildew spray. Leave overnight. Spray off and clean with micro [cloth].”

Kathleennancy Gallagher replied: “Try mould and mildew remover. It worked for me.”

Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster can be bought online or from most local supermarkets. Morrisons sells it for £1.50The Range for £1.49 and Iceland for £1.50, at the time of writing.

The product claims it “removes tough stains without the need for scrubbing, whilst regular use helps prevent return”.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans for cleaning tile grout included using a steam cleaner, neat bleach and Kilrock Grout Cleaner.

Sandy Gilbert said: “Steam cleaner – brilliant.” Dee Fletcher replied: “Neat bleach directly on [them]. Leave and then wipe.”

Tracy Hodgkinson commented: “Kilrock grout cleaner is really good. You can get it in Home Bargains.”
