How to remove shower screen stains naturally without using vinegar

Shower screens can be tricky to clean but need to be done as not only will it make a bathroom look unkept but can harbour bacteria.

They often become dirty very quickly as the glass becomes covered in soap scum after a wash while also building up water stains, and can even begin going mouldy if not cleaned regularly.

However, Amy Brooks, a cleaning expert from Bella Bathrooms has shared that the most effective way to clean shower glass is to simply use a lemon.

She said: “One of the best cleaning products and one that you will surely have in your cupboards come pancake day, lemon juice is perfect for scrubbing down shower doors.

“Lemon is not only great at getting rid of scum and mineral deposits, but it is ideal for removing streaks from glass shower doors.”

Lemons contain citric acid which is very effective at breaking down build up often found on showers but it also has natural antibacterial properties to help prevent mould growing in the shower.

Amy said: “Ideally, when using lemon, you will want to combine it with baking soda as the acid will create a reaction with the baking soda.

“This reaction will create a foam that is perfect for scrubbing down any part of the bathroom, not just your shower door.”

Baking soda can add extra scrubbing powder to the lemon as it is naturally abrasive, which means it can help tackle tougher stains.

All you have to do is cut a lemon in half, sprinkle the baking soda on the cut side and apply it directly to the glass door.

Scrub the entire glass with the lemon and allow it to sit for five to 10 minutes to give the acid time to break down the build-up.

After the time is up, rinse the shower down with warm water and wipe it down with a cloth and the glass should look pristine once again.

Additionally, you can make a lemon juice spray using a spray bottle. Simply squeeze lemon juice into the water, add a little bit of water and baking soda and apply it to the shower if you do not want to scrub.

This simple cleaning mixture is natural so you do not have to use harsh chemicals in an enclosed shower space but it also will leave your bathroom smelling fresh and incredibly clean at hardly any cost.
